Managed WordPress FAQ
You have probably had, or know someone who has had, an incident where they wish they were using a WordPress backup plugin. Maybe you have been hacked, installed a plugin that really messed something up, or accidentally deleted your whole WordPress website (I’m guilty of doing this ONCE…).
Having a WordPress backup plugin that regularly backs up everything on your WordPress website would have been a lifesaver and saved countless amount of hours fixing things for each of those situations. And there are even a few great WordPress backup plugins that I could recommend. Backup Buddy is the first one that comes to mind.
But, why do I not use a WordPress backup plugin. The answer is because I don’t have to.
I don’t have to use a WordPress backup plugin because I use WP Engine, the best managed WordPress hosting provider out there.
WP Engine automatically backs up my site everyday, and if I ever mess anything up, I can restore my site with just a few clicks!
On top of that, if I am going to be doing some theme modification I have two ways to safeguard myself from costly mistakes without the use of a WordPress backup plugin. First, WP Engine has a one-click restore point feature. This way, I can easily create a safety net in case I mess up my website when uploading a plugin or making a theme modification. Second, WP Engine has a one-click staging area that an exact mirror of my website. This way I can test changes to my site without even touching my actual site.
I don’t use a WordPress backup plugin because WP Engine takes care of everything for me! This is just one more reason why I recommend WP Engine to anyone that is serious about running a WordPress website.
